StarTrak Announces Refrigerated Transport Monitoring & Control Solution for Food Distribution Fleets Using Radio Frequency Communications
Morris Plains, NJ - August 22, 2006 - StarTrak Systems LLC, (an Alanco Company – NASDAQ: ALAN) is a leading provider of advanced wireless asset management systems for monitoring and control of cold chain assets for the freight transportation industries. Today, the company announced the launch of its ReeferTrak® Scout™ product line and the first commercial deployment of the system.
ReeferTrak® Scout is a wireless system that gives users full two-way command and control capability of their refrigerated truck and trailer fleets when the units are within range of a base station-equipped distribution center. When the "reefer" units are operating out of range of the center, the unit logs GPS, trip and refrigeration unit performance data and automatically downloads the information to StarTrak's central data center via any local base station upon delivery or return of the trip. Customers use the data to immediately confirm temperature compliance of the shipment from origin to destination. Because the base stations' several mile range provides excellent coverage of distribution facilities, customers use the service to improve their freight operations.
Two Los Angeles-area food distributors recently completed deployment of ReeferTrak® Scout units and base stations at their distribution centers. The Scout system allows the centers to share fleet data securely in a distributed environment, while offering centralized command capabilities to each individual reefer via a web interface.
Tom Robinson, StarTrak's Executive Vice President, said his company is pleased to introduce Scout as part of the ReeferTrak® family of refrigerated transport monitoring and control products. "This system allows customers to revolutionize their refrigerated freight operations by taking advantage of a real-time wireless application directly integrated with the microprocessor control systems on each reefer. This gives reefer freight operators enormous leverage. For instance, most operators can realize savings of 10% of their annual reefer fuel usage, and specialized operations, such as those in the fast food industry, can save substantially more."
By providing a high value solution to customers in the grocery/dairy, food distribution and "multi-temp" business segments, ReeferTrak® Scout solidifies StarTrak's leading position as a wireless applications provider in the refrigerated transport industry. According to Tim Slifkin, StarTrak's CEO, "StarTrak is in the unique position of having a two-way interface directly into each model of every refrigeration manufacturer's control processor,so customers, whose fleets are usually of mixed model and manufacturer, can gain enormous savings through our solution. ReeferTrak® Scout adds an RF-based communications offering to our existing cellular and satellite platforms, allowing us to offer a truly comprehensive solution set that penetrates every segment of the temperature controlled freight market – rail, truck, trailer, genset, and container."
